JAPAN CURRENT ACCOUNT AND TRADE BALANCE, MAY 2023

Month-over-months (May 2023 vs April 2023) 

The net current account surplus narrowed by ¥197 billion to ¥1,703 billion in May.

  • Net goods deficit widened by ¥98 billion to ¥479 billion.
  • Net services trade eroded by ¥490 billion, shifting from a surplus of ¥26 billion to a deficit of ¥465 billion.
  • The net primary income surplus widened by ¥272 billion to ¥2,945 billion
  • The net secondary income deficit decreased by ¥120 billion to ¥302 billion.

The net goods deficit widened by ¥98.3 billion to ¥479 billion.

  • Goods exports decreased ¥506 billion to ¥7,817 billion.
  • Goods imports decreased ¥407 billion to ¥8,295 billion.
