UK TRADE BALANCE, MAY 2023

Month-over-month (May 2023 vs April 2023, seasonally adjusted )

The United Kingdom goods and services trade deficit widened by £4.1 billion to £6.6 billion. Exports of goods and services decreased 2.6% (£1.8 billion) to £68.4 billion and imports of goods and services increased 3.1% (£2.3 billion) to £75.0 billion.

The United Kingdom goods trade deficit widened by £4.1 billion to £18.7 billion. Exports of goods decreased 6.0% (£2.0 billion) to £31.8 billion and imports of goods increased 4.2% (£2.0 billion) to £50.5 billion.

The United Kingdom services trade surplus decreased slightly by 0.3% (£0.03 billion) to £12.1 billion. Exports of services increased 0.5% (£0.2 billion) to £36.6 billion and imports of services increased 0.9% (£0.2 billion) to £24.5 billion.

 

Year-over-year (May 2023 vs May 2022, seasonally adjusted )

The United Kingdom goods and services trade deficit narrowed by £3.9 billion. Goods trade deficit narrowed by £2.7 billion and services trade surplus widened by £1.2 billion.

 

UNITED KINGDOM TRADING PARTNERS

Month-over-month (May 2023 vs April 2023, seasonally adjusted )

The United Kingdom EU goods trade deficit widened by £2.0 billion to £12.0 billion. Exports of goods decreased by £1.2 billion to £14.8 billion and imports of goods increased by £0.7 billion to £26.8 billion.

The United Kingdom non-EU goods trade deficit widened by £2.1 billion to £6.8 billion. Exports of goods decreased 4.5% (£0.8 billion) to £17.0 billion and imports of goods increased 5.8% (£1.3 billion) to £23.8 billion.

 

Year-over-year (May 2023 vs May 2022, seasonally adjusted )

The United Kingdom-EU goods trade deficit widened by £1.0 billion and non-EU goods trade deficit narrowed by £3.7 billion.
