July 14, 2023EU AND EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, MAY 2023 Month-over-month (May 2023 vs April 2023, seasonally adjusted)
In the 27 countries of the European Union, the balance of trade in goods deficit narrowed (€8.4 billion) to €2.2 billion in May 2023. Exports from the European Union were up 3.2% to €215.2 billion while imports declined 0.8% to €217.3 billion.
In the 20 countries of the Euro Area, the balance of trade in goods deficit narrowed (€7.1 billion) to €0.9 billion in May 2023. Exports from the Euro Area increased 2.9% to €239.1 billion while imports declined by 0.1% to €240.0 billion.
The European Union continues to run consistent surpluses in goods trade with the UK (€13.1 billion), Canada (€1.6 billion) and the US (€13.0 billion).
Likewise, for the subset of European Union countries that use the Euro, there is a goods trade surplus with the UK (€10.0 billion), Canada (€1.3 billion) and the US (€11.6 billion).
