LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JULY 2023

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (July 2023 vs June 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 7,000 (+1.3%) to 536,800
• Employment decreased 500 (-0.1%) to 495,200
• Unemployment increased 7,500 (+22.0%) to 41,600
• Unemployment Rate increased 1.3 percentage points to 7.7%


In Canada,

• Labour force increased 13,300 (+0.1%) to 21,333,200
• Employment decreased 6,400 (0.03%) to 20,166,400
• Unemployment increased 19,700 (+1.7%) to 1,166,800
• Unemployment Rate increased 0.1 percentage points to 5.5%


In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

• Labour force increased 1,100 (+0.4%) to 278,400
• Employment decreased 2,000 (-0.8%) to 259,600
• Unemployment increased 3,200 (+20.4%) to 18,900
• Unemployment Rate increased 1.1 percentage points to 6.8%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (July 2023 vs July 2022)


In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 19,600 (+3.8%)
• Employment increased 11,800 (+2.4%)
• Unemployment increased 7,700 (+22.7%)
• Unemployment Rate increased 1.1 percentage points


In Canada,

• Labour force increased 590,600 (+2.8%)
• Employment increased 435,300 (+2.2%)
• Unemployment increased 155,300 (+15.4%)
• Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points


In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

• Labour force increased 13,900 (+5.3%)
• Employment increased 7,800 (+3.1%)
• Unemployment increased 6,200 (+48.8%)
• Unemployment Rate increased 2.0 percentage points
