NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, JULY 2023

Monthly (July 2023 vs June 2023)

In Nova Scotia new housing prices were unchanged from the previous month in July 2023. Nationally, prices were down 0.1% from June 2023. Newfoundland and Labrador posted the largest monthly increase in new housing prices in July 2023. British Columbia posted the largest monthly decline. New housing prices were unchanged in five provinces. 

Year-over-year (July 2023 vs July 2022) 

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices declined 0.6% from July 2022. Nationally, prices were down 0.9%.

New housing prices increased in Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec. Manitoba reported the largest year-over-year decline in new housing prices. New housing prices were unchanged in New Brunswick.

Halifax new home prices decreased 0.6% year over year in July 2023. New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Québec City. New housing prices declined in 19 CMAs led by Victoria. 

Year-to-date (January-July 2023 vs January-July 2022)

Nova Scotia new housing prices increased 1.3% on average through the first seven months of the year. Nationally new housing prices increased 0.2% with gains in eight provinces. Alberta and Quebec had the largest increases. British Columbia reported the only decline. New housing prices were unchanged in Ontario.

Halifax's new housing price index was up 1.3% for January-July 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Most of the cities had growth with the fastest growth in Quebec and Calgary. New housing prices declined the most in Victoria.
