September 21, 2023NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, AUGUST 2023 Monthly (August 2023 vs July 2023)
In Nova Scotia new housing prices were unchanged from the previous month in August 2023. Nationally, prices were up 0.1% from July 2023. British Columbia posted the largest monthly increase in new housing prices in August 2023. Ontario and Saskatchewan posted the only monthly decline. New housing prices were unchanged in five provinces.
Year-over-year (August 2023 vs August 2022)
Nova Scotia’s new housing prices declined 0.6% from August 2022. Nationally, prices were down 0.9%.
New housing prices increased in Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec. Saskatchewan reported the largest year-over-year decline in new housing prices. New housing prices were unchanged in New Brunswick.
Halifax new home prices declined 0.6% year over year in August 2023. New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Québec City. New housing prices declined in 20 CMAs led by Ottawa and Victoria.
Year-to-date (January-August 2023 vs January-August 2022)
Nova Scotia new housing prices increased 1.0% on average through the first eight months of the year. Nationally new housing prices increased 0.1% with gains in seven provinces. Quebec had the largest increase and British Columbia reported the largest decline.
Halifax's new housing price index was up 1.0% for January-August 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Thirteen of the cities had growth with the fastest growth in Quebec and Calgary. New housing prices declined the most in Victoria.
