LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, SEPTEMBER 2023

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (September 2023 vs August 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

Labour force increased 2,700 (+0.5%) to 531,500

  • Employment increased 3,200 (+0.7%) to 494,800
  • Unemployment decreased 500 (-1.3%) to 36,700
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 6.9%

In Canada

Labour force increased 71,800 (+0.3%) to 21,459,200

  • Employment increased 63,800 (+0.3%) to 20,270,100
  • Unemployment increased 8,100 (+0.7%) to 1,189,100
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 5.5%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

Labour force increased 300 (+0.1%) to 280,100

  • Employment increased 400 (+0.2%) to 260,300
  • Unemployment decreased 100 (-0.5%) to 19,800
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 7.1%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (September 2023 vs September 2022)

In Nova Scotia,

Labour force increased 13,100 (+2.5%)

  • Employment increased 9,000 (+1.9%)
  • Unemployment increased 4,100 (+12.6%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points

In Canada

Labour force increased 667,900 (+3.2%)

  • Employment increased 552,000 (+2.8%)
  • Unemployment increased 115,900 (+10.8%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

Labour force increased 14,200 (+5.3%)

  • Employment increased 8,100 (+3.2%)
  • Unemployment increased 6,100 (+44.5%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.9 percentage points
