Month-over-month (August 2023 vs July 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In the 27 countries of the European Union, the balance of trade in goods surplus grew from €1.4 billion in July to €10.0 billion in August 2023. Exports from the European Union were up 1.3% to €211.0 billion while imports declined by 2.9% to €200.9 billion.

In the 20 countries of the Euro Area, the balance of trade in goods surplus grew to €11.9 billion in August 2023 from €3.5 billion in the previous month. Exports from the Euro Area grew 1.6% to €236.0 billion while imports declined by 2.0% to €224.1 billion.

The European Union continues to run consistent surpluses in goods trade with the UK (€12.7 billion), Canada (€1.9 billion) and the US (€15.7 billion).

Likewise, for the subset of European Union countries that use the Euro, there is a goods trade surplus with the UK (€9.7 billion), Canada (€1.5 billion) and the US (€13.8 billion).
