EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, SEPTEMBER 2023

Year-over-year (September 2023 vs September 2022)

The inflation rate slowed to 4.9% in the European Union and to 4.3% in the Euro Area in September 2023.

The fastest inflation was reported in Hungary (+12.2%) while the slowest inflation rate was in Nethlerlands (-0.3%), Denmark (+0.6%), Belgium (+0.7%). 

Energy inflation declined 3.6% in the European Union and declined 4.6% in the Euro Area in September2023.

Food price inflation is slowing but remains elevated at 9.2% for the European Union and 9.1% for the Euro Area. 

Excluding the impacts of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices year-over-year inflation was slowed to 5.1% in the European Union and 4.5% in the Euro Area in September 2023.
