LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, OCTOBER 2023

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (October 2023 vs September 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 7,300 (+1.4%) to 538,800
  • Employment increased 8,200 (+1.7%) to 503,000
  • Unemployment decreased 900 (-2.5%) to 35,800
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.3 percentage points to 6.6%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 57,800 (+0.3%) to 21,517,000
  • Employment increased 17,500 (+0.1%) to 20,287,600
  • Unemployment increased 40,300 (+3.4%) to 1,229,400
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 5.7%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 900 (+0.3%) to 281,000
  • Employment increased 3,300 (+1.3%) to 263,600
  • Unemployment decreased 2,300 (-11.6%) to 17,500
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.9 percentage points to 6.2%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (October 2023 vs October 2022)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 15,800 (+3.0%)
  • Employment increased 16,200 (+3.3%)
  • Unemployment decreased 400 (-1.1%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.3 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 644,800 (+3.1%)
  • Employment increased 501,200 (+2.5%)
  • Unemployment increased 143,600 (+13.2%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.5 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 12,200 (+4.5%)
  • Employment increased 9,800 (+3.9%)
  • Unemployment increased 2,500 (+16.7%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points
