November 15, 2023US RETAIL SALES, OCTOBER 2023 Month over month (October 2023 vs September 2023, seasonally adjusted)
The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales decreased 0.1%. Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales decreased 0.2%. Food service and drinking place receipts increased 0.3%.
Year-over-year (October 2023 vs October 2022, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade and food services increased 2.5%. Retail trade increased 1.6% and food services and drinking places sales increased 8.6%.
Year to date (January-October 2023, seasonally adjusted)
During the first ten months of 2023, US retail trade and food services increased 3.2%. Retail trade increased 2.0% and food services and drinking places sales increased 11.6%.
In percentage terms, sales were up in 9 of 13 retail categories, the largest decline (in percentage terms) was seen in gas stations while the fastest gain was in health and personal care stores and non-store retailers.
