JAPAN GDP Q3 2023 (SECOND PRELIMINARY)

The Japanese economy contracted at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 2.9% in the third quarter of 2023. Revisions now indicate that Japan's economy contracted slightly in the third quarter of 2022 and rose slightly in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Japan's economic contraction came with a second consecutive decline in real household consumption. Residential investment was down, as were non-residential investment, government investment and inventory accumulation. Both exports and imports rose, but imports grew at a faster pace.

Japan's nominal GDP was essentially unchanged (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) in Q3 2023. Japan's price deflator for real GDP (the broad measure of price growth) increased at a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 3.1% in Q3 2023.
