EU AND EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, OCTOBER 2023

Month-over-month (October 2023 vs September 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In the 27 countries of the European Union, the balance of trade in goods surplus grew from €6.4 billion in September to €9.7 billion in October 2023. Exports from the European Union were up 1.2% to €211.8 billion while imports fell by 0.4% to €202.1 billion.

In the 20 countries of the Euro Area, the balance of trade in goods surplus grew to €10.9 billion in October 2023 from €8.7 billion in the previous month. Exports from the Euro Area rose by 0.7% to €235.1 billion while imports declined by 0.3% to €224.3 billion.

The European Union continued to run consistent surpluses in goods trade with the UK (€14.8 billion), Canada (€2.3 billion) and the US (€15.6 billion).

Likewise, for the subset of European Union countries that use the Euro, there was a goods trade surplus with the UK (€11.9 billion), Canada (€1.8 billion) and the US (€13.3 billion).
