LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, MARCH 2024

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (March 2024 vs February 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 700 (-0.1%) to 550,400
  • Employment decreased 1,500 (-0.3%) to 516,400
  • Unemployment increased 800 (+2.4%) to 34,000
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 6.2%

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 57,700 (+0.3%) to 21,721,000
  • Employment decreased 2,200 (0.0%) to 20,400,700
  • Unemployment increased 59,900 (+4.8%) to 1,320,300
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points to 6.1%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 3,400 (+1.2%) to 293,300
  • Employment increased 2,500 (+0.9%) to 278,000
  • Unemployment increased 900 (+6.3%) to 15,300
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 5.2%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (March 2024 vs March 2023)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 24,800 (+4.7%)
  • Employment increased 19,800 (+4.0%)
  • Unemployment increased 5,000 (+17.2%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 571,300 (+2.7%)
  • Employment increased 324,300 (+1.6%)
  • Unemployment increased 246,900 (+23.0%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.0 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 17,900 (+6.5%)
  • Employment increased 15,200 (+5.8%)
  • Unemployment increased 2,700 (+21.4%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points
