US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JUNE 2021

Month over month (June 2021 vs May 2021, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending increased 0.1% month-over-month from the revised May estimate of $1,551 billion to $1,552 billion in June. Total residential construction increased 1.1% to $772 billion while total non-residential construction spending was down 0.9% to $780 billion.

Private sector construction increased 0.4% to $1,215 billion. Public sector construction declined 1.2% to $337 billion.

Year over year (June 2021 vs June 2020)

US Construction spending was up 8.2%. Total residential construction was up 28.8% while total non-residential construction was down 6.6%. Private sector construction spending was up 13.5%. Public sector construction spending was down 7.5%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Jun 2021 vs Jan-Jun 2020)

In the first six months of 2021, US construction spending was up 5.3% from the same period last year. Total residential construction was up 24.3%. Total non-residential construction was down 8.1%. Private sector construction was up 9.4%. Public sector construction was down 6.8%.
