The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales decreased 0.02%. Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales decreased 0.07%. Food service and drinking place receipts increased 0.3%.
Year-over-year (June 2024 vs June 2023, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade and food services increased 2.3%. Retail trade increased 2.0% and food services and drinking places sales increased 4.4%.
Year-to-date (January-June 2024 vs January-June 2023)
Sales were up in 7 of 12 retail categories. The largest decline (in percentage terms) was seen in furniture while the fastest gains were in non-store retailers and miscellaneous stores.
