NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2025

Year-over-year (December 2025 vs December 2024, domestic exports on a customs-basis, unadjusted)

Nova Scotia international goods exports were $517.4 million in December 2025, a decline of 9.8% compared to December 2024.

Canada's goods exports were down by 1.6% compared to December 2024. Seven provinces reported lower exports year-over-year with Newfoundland and Labrador experiencing the largest decline in exports. Prince Edward Island reported the largest gain in domestic exports.

Annual 2025 vs 2024

In 2025, domestic exports fell 0.4% in Nova Scotia compared to 2024, similar to Canada's exports that also declined 0.4% in 2025, with seven provinces reporting declines led by Manitoba. Ontario reported the largest export growth in 2025.

Among broad product categories, the largest categories were farm, fishing and intermediate food products, followed by motor vehicles and parts as well as consumer goods. 

Nova Scotia's annual domestic exports grew the most (in value terms) for electronics/electrical equipment and motor vehicles/parts. The largest decline was among shipments of farm/fishing/intermediate food products, consumer goods, and forestry products.

Although energy products reported the largest percentage increase in 2025 exports, Nova Scotia's energy exports remain a small value.

The US is by far Nova Scotia's largest destination for international goods exports. In 2025, Nova Scotia exports to the United States edged down 0.3% over one year, falling to $4,588.1 million.

China is Nova Scotia's second largest export destination and exports declined 26.5% to $506.5 million in 2025.

Among the other significant export destinations, annual exports were up most sharply (>20%) to France, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, Italy, Taiwan, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Algeria. The largest declines (<-20%) in annual exports were to China, India, Netherlands. 

Nova Scotia's exports to the US accounted for 69.5% of exports in 2025. Massachusetts, Illinois and South Carolina each had a larger export value than Nova Scotia's shipments to China in 2025. Exports were up for six of Nova Scotia's top ten US state destinations; exports were down to Texas, Maine, New York and California. The largest dollar value increases were for Illinois and South Carolina.

Nova Scotia's 0.4% decline in annual goods exports brings the the provincial total to $6.61 billion - just below the previous high that was established in 2024.
