US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, APRIL 2026

Month-over-month (April vs March 2026, seasonally adjusted)

US retail sales increased 0.5% from the previous month. Food service and drinking places receipts rose 0.6%.                       

Year-over-year (April 2026 vs April 2025, seasonally adjusted)

US retail trade increased 5.2% and food services and drinking places sales increased 2.7%.

Year-to-date (January-April 2026 vs January-April 2025)

In the first four months of 2026, retail trade and food services receipts were up 4.1% compared to the same period of 2025. US retail sales were up 4.2% with gains in all categories except furniture. The fastest gains (in percentage terms) were in miscellaneous and non-store retailers. Food service receipts were up 3.6% in January-April 2026.
