JAPAN CURRENT ACCOUNT AND TRADE BALANCE, MAY 2026

Month-over-month (May vs April 2026)

The current account surplus narrowed by ¥1,146.6 billion to ¥3,064.5 billion.

  • the goods trade surplus narrowed by ¥265.1 billion to ¥204.5 billion
  • the services trade surplus declined by ¥519.9 billion to a deficit of ¥248.3 billion
  • the primary income surplus narrowed by ¥248.0  billion to ¥3,441.2 billion
  • the secondary income deficit widened by ¥113.5 billion to ¥332.9 billion

The goods trade surplus narrowed by ¥265.1 billion to ¥204.5 billion.

  • goods exports increased by ¥183.4 billion to ¥10,374.1 billion.
  • goods imports increased by ¥448.5 billion to ¥10,169.6 billion.
