LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JUNE 2026

                              

MONTH OVER MONTH (June 2026 vs May 2026, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • The labour force increased 1,500 (+0.3%) to 570,600
  • Employment increased 4,800 (+0.9%) to 533,300
  • The number of unemployed persons decreased 3,300 (-8.1%) to 37,200
  • The unemployment rate decreased 0.6 percentage points to 6.5%

In Canada

  • The labour force increased 5,000 (+0.02%) to 22,608,900
  • Employment increased 18,200 (+0.1%) to 21,139,700
  • The number of unemployed persons decreased 13,200 (-0.9%) to 1,469,200
  • The unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 6.5%

In Halifax and East Hants Census Metropolitan Area, (3-month moving average) 

  • The labour force decreased 800 (-0.3%) to 315,000
  • Employment decreased 200 (-0.1%) to 297,500
  • The number of unemployed persons decreased 600 (-3.3%) to 17,500
  • The unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 5.6%

YEAR OVER YEAR (June 2026 vs June 2025)

In Nova Scotia,

  • The labour force increased 10,600 (+1.9%)
  • Employment increased 11,200 (+2.1%)
  • The number of unemployed persons decreased 600 (-1.6%)
  • The unemployment rate decreased 0.3 percentage points

In Canada

  • The labour force increased 19,900 (+0.1%)
  • Employment increased 99,000 (+0.5%)
  • The number of unemployed persons decreased 79,200 (-5.1%)
  • The unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points

In Halifax and East Hants Census Metropolitan Area, (3-month moving average) 

  • The labour force increased 4,500 (+1.4%)
  • Employment increased 5,200 (+1.8%)
  • The number of unemployed persons decreased 700 (-3.8%)
