CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, DECEMBER & ANNUAL 2022

YEAR-OVER-YEAR (December 2022 vs December 2021)

All items (index 2002=100)

Consumer prices in Nova Scotia increased 7.6%. The national average was 6.3%. In Halifax consumer prices increased 7.4%.

Excluding food and energy (index 2002=100)

Nova Scotia consumer prices increased 5.7%. This was higher than the national average increase of 5.3%.

 

MONTH-OVER-MONTH (December 2022 vs November 2022)

All items (index 2002=100)

Consumer prices in Nova Scotia declined 1.3%. Nationally, consumer prices were 0.6% lower from the previous month. In Halifax consumer prices declined 1.2%.

Excluding food and energy (index 2002=100)

Nova Scotia and national consumer prices increased 0.4% while nationally, prices excluding food and energy declined 0.1%

 

ANNUAL (2022 VS 2021)

Comparing the average of CPI in 2022 with the average in 2021, all-items CPI increased by 7.5% in Nova Scotia. National all-items CPI was up 6.8% in 2022. In Halifax, all-items CPI grew 7.3%. 

Excluding food and energy, Nova Scotia's inflation was 4.3% in 2022, lower than the national inflation of 5.0%.
