LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - MARCH 2017

In Nova Scotia March 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 1.7% (+8,200) from February 2017 to 493,200 and increased 0.2% (+900) over March 2016.
  • Employment increased 1.0% (+4,600) from February 2017 to 450,500 and increased 0.6% (+2,800) over March 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 9.0% (+3,500) from February 2017 to 42,600 and decreased 4.3% (-1,900) over March 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.5 percentage points from February 2017 to 8.6%.


In Canada March 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.2%  (+47,000) from February 2017 to 19.6 million and increased 1.1% (+210,100) over March 2016.
  • Employment increased 0.1% (+19,400) from February 2017 to 18.3 million and increased 1.5% (+276,400) over March 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 2.1% (+27,600) from February 2017 to 1.3 million and decreased 4.8% (-66,300) over March 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points from February 2017 to 6.7%.


In Halifax March 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally adjusted):

  • Labour force increased 0.3% (+800) from February 2017 to 240,200 and decreased 0.3% (-700) over March 2016.
  • Employment decreased 0.1% (-200) from February 2017 to 224,700 and increased 0.4% (+1,000) over March 2016.
  • Unemployment increased 6.9% (+1,000) from February 2017 to 15,500 and decreased 10.4% (-1,800) over March 2016.
  • Unemployment rate increased 0.4 percentage points from February 2017 to 6.5%.
