- Labour force decreased 0.5% (-2,400) from March 2017 to 490,800 and increased 0.3% (+1,400) over April 2016.
- Employment decreased 0.1% (-500) from March 2017 to 450,000 and increased 0.2% (+900) over April 2016.
- Unemployment decreased 4.2% (-1,800) from March 2017 to 40,800 and increased 1.5% (+600) over April 2016.
- Unemployment rate decreased 0.3 percentage points from March 2017 to 8.3%.
In Canada April 2017 (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force decreased 0.2% (-45,500) from March 2017 to 19.6 million and increased 0.8% (+164,600) over April 2016.
- Employment remained unchanged (+3,200) from March 2017 at 18.3 million and increased 1.5% (+275,700) over April 2016.
- Unemployment decreased 3.7% (-48,700) from March 2017 to 1.3 million and decreased 8.1% (-111,200) over April 2016.
- Unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points from March 2017 to 6.5%.
In Halifax April 2017 (3 month moving average, seasonally adjusted):
- Labour force increased 0.1% (+300) from March 2017 to 240,500 and decreased 0.6% (-1,400) over April 2016.
- Employment decreased 0.2% (-500) from March 2017 to 224,200 and decreased 0.4% (-900) over April 2016.
- Unemployment increased 5.2% (+800) from March 2017 to 16,300 and decreased 3.0% (-500) over April 2016.
- Unemployment rate increased 0.3 percentage points from March 2017 to 6.8%.
