LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - FEBRUARY 2018

In Nova Scotia February 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.3% (1,300) from January 2018 to 495,300 and increased 2.1% (10,100) over February 2017.
  • Employment increased 0.6% (2,800) from January 2018 to 456,300 and increased 2.3% (10,300) over February 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased -3.7% (-1,500) from January 2018 to 39,000 and decreased -0.5% (-200) over February 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased -0.3 percentage points to 7.9%.

 

In Canada February 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):            

  • Labour force remains virtually unchanged (6,300) from January 2018 at 19,716,800 and increased 0.7% (140,400) over February 2017.
  • Employment increased 0.1% (15,400) from January 2018 to 18,572,500 and increased 1.5% (282,500) over February 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased -0.8% (-9,100) from January 2018 to 1,144,300 and decreased -11.0% (-142,100) over February 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased -0.1 percentage points to 5.8%.

 

In Halifax February 2018, (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):           

  • Labour force increased 1.0% (2,400) from January 2018 to 245,500 and increased 2.5% (5,900) over February 2017.
  • Employment increased 1.5% (3,400) from January 2018 to 229,800 and increased 2.3% (5,200) over February 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased -5.4% (-900) from January 2018 to 15,700 and increased 4.7% (700) over February 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased -0.4 percentage points to 6.4%.
