MacLellans Mountain Quarry Expansion Project

Description

This is to advise on June 28, 2018, S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd. registered the MacLellans Mountain Quarry Expansion Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand the existing MacLellans Mountain Quarry located on two tracts of private land: PID 00888537 (2178 MacLellans Mountain Glencoe Road, McLellans Brook) and PID 65165748 (26 Glen Road, McLellans Brook), Nova Scotia. This Project encompasses expansion of the existing quarry over an expected 50-year period, across an expansion area of 32.8 hectares. Future rate of aggregate production (~250,000 tonnes annually) and associated quarry activities at the MacLellans Mountain Quarry are expected to remain consistent with current quarry operations. Quarry expansion will commence in August 2018, pending approval.

Minister's Decision

On August 14, 2018, the Minister of Environment determined that the Registration information was insufficient to make a decision on the Project and that additional information is required. The Proponent must provide information regarding hydrology and fish.
