Description
This is to advise on March 28, 2019, S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd. registered an Additional Information Addendum for the MacLellans Mountain Quarry Expansion Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand the existing MacLellans Mountain Quarry located on two tracts of private land: PID 00888537 (2178 MacLellans Mountain Glencoe Road, McLellans Brook) and PID 65165748 (26 Glen Road, McLellans Brook), Nova Scotia. This Project encompasses expansion of the existing quarry over an expected 50-year period, across an expansion area of 32.8 hectares. Future rate of aggregate production (~250,000 tonnes annually) and associated quarry activities at the MacLellans Mountain Quarry are expected to remain consistent with current quarry operations. The addendum includes additional information regarding potential effects to hydrological and fish habitat conditions as a result of the proposed quarry expansion.
Minister's Decision
On May 17, 2019 the Minister of Environment released a decision concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
