Description
On Friday, October 21, 2005, Cape Breton Power Ltd. registered the 4 MW Lingan Wind Power Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to erect two 2 MW wind turbines on the coastal barrens northwest of the Lingan power station in Cape Breton Municipality. The Proponent plans to begin construction in the fall of 2005 and operation to begin in early 2007.
Minister's Decision
On November 15, 2005, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decision (PDF:120k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.
The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF:76k).
The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.

Public comments regarding this project were accepted from October 21, 2005 to November 4, 2005. Comments submitted on the Registration Document are available at the Department of Environment and Climate Change Library.
