Provincial Energy Ventures Wharf Approach Deepening Project

Description

This is to advise that on June 4, 2012, PEV (the Proponent) will register the PEV Wharf Approach Deepening Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is deepen the approach to the PEV wharf facility at the former Sydney Steel Corporation docks located in Sydney Harbour, Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The Project is proposed in a phased approach. Phase 1 involves the use of a dredge to excavate sediments from the approach to the pier. Phase 2 involves a wharf based excavation of sediments immediately in front of the pier. All derdged sediments will be transferred and disposed of within a newly constructed confined disposal facility (CDF) in Blast Furnace Cove.

Minister’s Decision

On July 24, 2012 the Minister of Environment released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:134k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.
