Description
This is to advise that on 8 October 2026, Dexter Construction Company Limited registered the Woodville Pit Expansion Project, Kings County for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand the operating footprint of the existing less than 4-hectare pit. The pit is located on PID 55064547, at 987 Bligh Road, in Woodville, Kings County, Nova Scotia and has been in operation for approximately 15 years. The land associated with the proposed expansion area will occupy a maximum of 19.44 hectares and includes the existing pit footprint. Expansion of the pit footprint will support continued extraction and production of quality aggregate products used primarily in the road construction industry in Kings County. Other than the expanded operating footprint, it is expected that the continued use of the pit will be identical, or very similar, to historic use at the site, and will include the occasional operation of a portable rock crusher to process aggregate materials, stockpiling, and transportation of aggregate materials, when Dexter has work in the area. The project is anticipated to commence during the 2027 construction season with production volumes of approximately 50,000 tonnes per year during years in which the pit is active. A project life of 40-years is expected.
Minister's Decision
On or before 27 November 2026, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change will decide if the project can be granted conditional environmental assessment approval.
