Onshore petroleum atlas, geoscience and maps
Nova Scotia estimates it has about 7 trillion cubic feet of recoverable onshore natural gas in just two of its sedimentary basins.
The Government of Nova Scotia openly provides science, data, maps and other information to give geoscientists and technical professionals the opportunity to reproduce and verify findings, resulting in a better understanding of Nova Scotia’s onshore petroleum resource potential.
Nova Scotia’s Core Library serves as an archive and a client service facility, providing drill core, geological sample material and information relating to exploration and development drilling carried out in the province.
Onshore Petroleum Atlas (2017)
The Nova Scotia Onshore Petroleum Atlas (2017) represents the first comprehensive look at the province’s onshore hydrocarbon resource potential.
This series of documents attempts to quantify Nova Scotia’s onshore resource by using the available subsurface geological data and established methods of resource estimation. It also looks at how this resource is distributed between different types of reservoirs and the challenges that presents.
The atlas is presented as a series of open file reports and associated appendices and enclosures.
