Plant Your Roots Program
The Plant Your Roots program supports new ownership of commercial farms in Nova Scotia. Program funding helps improve the financial stability of beginner farmers in the first years of operation (based on a 4-year projected calculation of eligible loan interest on new loans).
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be a farm or Mi'kmaq conducting farming activities in a Mi'kmaw community.
For farms, you need to:
- be currently and properly registered in the correct income category under the Farm Registration Act
- be at least 19 years old and actively farming in the program year
- be establishing a farm business with the goal of reaching a commercial scale level within 5 years or purchasing a commercial farm (or at least 25% interest in a commercial farm) in Nova Scotia for the first time

Deadline or important dates
Program opening: 29 July 2024
Application deadline: 15 February 2025
How to apply
Complete the Program Application Form (make sure to check the application for details on all required supporting documents). Send your completed application and supporting documents to the Programs Division office.
You also need to complete the Program Funding Registration Form.
