Simple Machines on the Farm
Classroom resources to support curriculum outcomes related to simple and compound machine outcomes for Grade 5 science teachers, using farm machinery as examples.
Learners can explore simple and compound machines with a focus on farm machinery with this grade 5 resource. Background information on different types of farm machines is provided with details on how technology has changed how machines work. Teachers are provided with a simple, fun activity that can be done as a class or individually by each learner.
Simple Machines on the Farm Provides:
- lesson plan with curriculum connections to grade 5 science, background information, guiding questions and a list of online resources
- simple and fun activity that can be done as a class or individually by learners
- staff support to answer questions
Eligibility
Grade 5 science teachers in Nova Scotia public schools can apply.
How to apply
- Determine if the Simple Machines resource is a good fit for your classroom.
- Complete the application form.
- The Department of Agriculture will review all applications.
- Teachers will be contacted and sent the resources.
How long it takes
In most cases, teachers will be notified within 10 days of receipt of application. Teachers will be provided with the lesson plan and an approximate date for delivery of supplies by email.
Cost
There is no cost to participate in this program.
