Veterinary Student Placement Program

The Veterinary Student Placement Program provides veterinary students with applied learning opportunities and gives them experience in rural Nova Scotia's agriculture industry. The program places students who have completed at least 1 year of veterinary school with farms and veterinary clinics for a 12-week work term from May to August 2025.

Eligible employers (farms or veterinary clinics) will receive a wage subsidy of $5,400. Students will receive a bursary of $2,500 after completing the program.

Eligibility

Students can apply if they:

  • are a permanent resident of Nova Scotia
  • have completed their first year of study at Atlantic Veterinary College
  • have completed the required training courses
  • If positions are not filled, Nova Scotia students attending other veterinary colleges or Atlantic Veterinary College students from outside Nova Scotia will be considered.

Farms can apply if they:

  • have a current farm registration with the Department of Agriculture
  • are at least 19 years old
  • work with a veterinary practice

Veterinary practices can apply if they:

  • have a registered business
  • participate in the Livestock Health Services Program
  • work with food animals

Claim deadline: September 30, 2025

How to apply

Complete the applicable Program Application Form (make sure to check the application for details on all required supporting documents). Send your completed application and supporting documents to the Programs Division office.

You also need to complete the Program Funding Registration Form.
