Nova Scotia’s first ever Sexual Violence Strategy began in May 2014. The three-year commitment started with the development of a strategy and included extensive community engagement to help understand how Nova Scotians were experiencing sexual violence, how to support victims/survivors and their families, and how to prevent it from happening in the first place.

This feedback shaped the actions and guiding principles of the Strategy which was launched in June 2015: Breaking the Silence: A Coordinated Response to Sexual Violence in Nova Scotia.
The Strategy identified action items under the following three categories:
June 2015 marked the beginning of the first full year of implementation of the Strategy and significant progress in each of the above action areas has been made.
