Always carry a survival
kit when travelling in remote areas. Pack it in a small, waterproof
container so you're not tempted to leave it at home.
In a survival situation
your priorities are to find or make shelter, keep warm and dry, and
signal for help.
The kit should provide
a means of achieving all three.
- Emergency foil
blankets (Heavy duty, nylon tarp backing, grommets)
- Sheet of light
plastic, 3m (10 feet) square, and some twine
- Roll of electricians
tape (cold resistant)
- Strike anywhere
matches
- Candle Fire starter
- Two aluminum
foil bread pans, folded (to heat water)
- Signalling mirror
- Whistle
- Chocolate bar,
- bouillon and
flavoured gelatin powder for hot drinks
- First aid kit
- Knife
- Extra socks
Practice using these
materials, and building shelters, before you head out.
