Service Nova Scotia, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, have developed a new Buy Local licence plate that supports local products, including Nova Scotia's agriculture and seafood products. One hundred percent of each donation will be distributed to selected community based groups to support events that will support local farmers. The colourful licence plate features an image of the Select Nova Scotia logo with the words "Nova Scotia" across the top and the words "Buy Local" across the bottom. The design reflects government's visual identity program for displaying our province's name and is in keeping with the design for other specialty licence plates.
The Buy Local licence plate is now available from any Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles Office.
The Buy Local licence plate will be issued in sequential order to passenger (i.e. cars and station wagons) and light commercial vehicles up to 5000 kgs (i.e. trucks, SUVs and vans).
The registration fee for a Buy Local licence plate will be the standard vehicle registration fee associated with the class and weight of the vehicle being registered. In addition, a $50 donation will be collected at the time of initial issuance of the plate and on renewals. The $50 donation will be directed to the Select Nova Scotia fund.
The Select Nova Scotia fund is administered by the Department of Agriculture for initiatives that support local farmers. One hundred percent of each donation will be used to benefit food producers, rural communities, the provincial economy and growth and development of the agricultural industry. You may obtain more information about the Select Nova Scotia Fund by visiting www.selectnovascotia.ca.
Note: Current Canada Revenue Agency requirements do not permit the donation to be used as a tax deduction.
