Crime prevention is the concerted effort of individuals, communities, businesses, police services, and government agencies to be actively involved in addressing the root causes of crime so that people are and feel safe and secure in their homes and communities and individuals at risk of being involved with crime are supported in ways to reduce the likelihood of offending.
The Department of Justice Crime Prevention Unit currently funds, hosts and sponsors a number of key initiatives both providing resources to community crime prevention initiatives, and recognizing the contributions of those who succeed in raising awareness and promoting the cause of crime prevention.
