The Crane Operators Appeal Board was created pursuant to the Crane Operators and Power Engineers Act which came into effect on September 1, 2001. It is an independent adjudicative tribunal charged with considering appeals filed under Part I of the Act.
Inspectors, including the Chief Examiner, in the Power Engineers and Crane Operators Section of the Building, Fire and Technical Safety Division are responsible for ensuring compliance with Part I of the Act. It is the duty of the Crane Operators Examination Committee to issue certificates of qualification to crane operators. Any person aggrieved by a decision of the Examination Committee, an inspector, the Chief Examiner, or any other employee of the Department may appeal, in writing, within 30 days to the Crane Operators Appeal Board.

All decisions of the Crane Operators Appeal Board are in writing and are supported by reasons. Decisions of the Board are final.
