Register with Nova Scotia’s online service to Submit Your Form On-Line (Businesses)

You have two options:

 

Option A

Print Option A Instructions

Request a Nova Scotia’s online service username and password to be able to complete and submit the Employer Registration form online. This is the quickest option to complete and submit the form but you will not receive the full benefits of being a registered Nova Scotia’s online service user. We understand that in order to meet the August 1 deadline you may wish to use this option. However, in the future you may want to follow the instructions in Option ‘B’ to register for Nova Scotia’s online service and take advantage of the full benefits it offers.

 

Option B

Print Option B Instructions

Request registration as a Nova Scotia’s online service user. This process takes approximately 5 to 7 business days because Nova Scotia’s online service needs to verify the business information and your relationship with the business that you are registering. This will give you the full benefits of Nova Scotia’s online service. More than 10,000 Nova Scotia businesses currently use Nova Scotia’s online service for the following activities, with more activities to be added soon:

  • Starting a Business
  • Searching for Licences and Permits
  • Applying for and / or Renewing Licences and Permits
  • Pre-populating most of their forms with their current, accurate business information
  • Paying for Licences and Permits
  • Managing Registry of Joint Stock Companies Renewals
  • Managing their Business Information on file with the Provincial Government
  • Registering with Workers' Compensation Board
  • Generating Workers' Compensation Board Clearance letters
  • Managing their Tender Opportunities Notification Service Subscription

 

Option A - Request an Nova Scotia’s online service username and password to complete and submit the Employer Registration form online

 

You will need the following information:

  • Your email address
  • A password which meets a ‘strength’ test (which is explained on-screen)
  • Three questions and answers which you can use to recover your password if necessary
  • These printed instructions

Once you have completed the steps below, you will be able to log in to Nova Scotia’s online service any time to complete and submit a ‘Temporary Foreign Worker Employer Registration’ form.



1. Go to the Nova Scotia’s online service website and select the ‘Sign up for Nova Scotia’s online service’ button.

Step 1 - Follow the on-screen directions to enter your user name (your email address), first name, last name and password. Make sure that your password meets the ‘strength’ requirements listed on-screen. Please note @ # $ % are the only four symbols that can be used in your password. Select ‘Continue’.

Step 2 - Enter three security questions and answers. You can use these to recover your password if you forget it. Select ‘Continue’.

Step 3 - Review the Terms and Conditions of use and check the ‘I Agree’ checkbox if you agree with the Terms and Conditions. Select ‘Continue’.
You will see a summary of the information that you entered on-screen. Review it and, if correct, select ‘Submit’ and then ‘Continue’. If not correct, use the ‘Back’ button to return to a previous screen to edit the information.

You now have a username and password that will give you limited access to Nova Scotia’s online services. On the Home page, enter the user name (email) and password that you just created and select ‘Sign In’.



2. Select the ‘Temporary Foreign Workers Employer Registration’ link in the right hand portion of the screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete and submit the form. Spaces for required information are outlined in red.

To avoid delays in processing your application for registration, please provide as much information as possible on the form.

 

3. When you have completed the form, do the following:

  • Select the ‘Print’ button to print a copy of the completed form for your records.
  • Select the ‘Submit’ button and select ‘OK’ on the confirmation message.
  • If you have not filled in all the required information, a message will display. If it does, enter the required information in the form and then select Submit again.

The form will be sent to your ‘My Cart’ for final submission. There is no fee for the application but in order for your form to be submitted, you need to do the following ‘payment’ steps.

    • Select the checkbox beside the Temporary Foreign Worker Employer Registration Application transaction type description and then select the ‘Pay All Pending Fee(s)’ button. You will not be asked for your credit card information.
    • Select ‘Yes’ to proceed with payment.

You will see a ‘Payment Successfully processed’ message and ‘My Cart’ is empty. This means that your completed form has been submitted to the Labour Standards office for processing.

 

4. Logout.

  • Select the Logout link in the top right hand corner to log out. If you want to continue using Nova Scotia’s online services, click the ‘Back’ button to be returned to the Nova Scotia’s online service Options page.

 

5. You can save a partially completed form and return to it later to complete and submit it. Follow these steps to return to a saved form::

Step 1 - Open Nova Scotia’s online service and enter your username (email) and password.

Step 2 - On the left hand side of the page, select the ‘Individual Account’ button. This will give you access to your saved form.

Step 3 - In the Message list, select the ‘Go to Briefcase’ button.

Step 4 - In the list of ‘Forms to be Submitted Online’ select the ‘Open’ button next to your Foreign Worker form.

Step 5 - Complete the form and follow the on-screen instructions to submit the form.
As noted previously, there is no fee to register.

Option B: Request registration as an Nova Scotia’s online service user and submit the Employer Registration form

 

You will need the following information:

  • Your email address
  • A password which meets a ‘strength’ test (which is explained on-screen)
  • Three questions and answers which you can use to recover your password if necessary
  • Your role in the business, for example, Director, Officer, Partner
  • The business’ registered office full mailing address
  • The Business Number (15 digits) of the business operating name
  • These printed instructions

Note: If you previously followed Option A and obtained an Nova Scotia’s online service username and password, you can start the following Nova Scotia’s online service registration process at Step 4 below.

Once you have completed the steps below, you will be able to log in to Nova Scotia’s online service any time to complete and submit a Foreign Worker Employer Registration form. As well, you will have access to all the benefits of Nova Scotia’s online service.

Step 4 - On the Nova Scotia’s online service Home page, enter the user name (email) and password that you just created and select ‘Sign In’. You will now complete and submit a Client Access form. This form will enable you to have access to information about your business on file with the province and all the services of Nova Scotia’s online service. To complete the form, you’ll need:

  • Your role in the business, for example, Director, Officer, Partner
  • The mailing address on file for your business
  • Your Business Number (15 digits) for the business operating name

Step 5 - Select the ‘Client Access Request’ link on the bottom left hand portion of the page and complete and submit the form (there is no fee for this). Then log out.

Nova Scotia’s online service will review the information on the form. Once your information has been verified, a letter will be mailed to the address we have on file for your business containing a ‘shared secret’. This ‘shared secret’ is an Nova Scotia’s online service security code that you will be required to enter only once on your next login to Nova Scotia’s online service. You should receive your ‘shared secret’ by mail within 5-7 business days.

Step 6 - Open Nova Scotia’s online service and enter your username (email) and password. You will be asked to enter the security code that you received in the mail from Nova Scotia’s online service. Once you’ve entered this security code, you have access to all Nova Scotia’s online services, including the Employer Registration form online.

Step 7 - Select the ‘Temporary Foreign Workers Employer Registration’ link in the right hand portion of the screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete and submit the form. The form will pre-populate with your company information. The fields requiring information are outlined in red.
