Fuel Safety Regulations Review 2008

Nova Scotia Labour and Advanced Education has embarked on a review of the current technical safety legislative framework. The review focuses on how the current legislation may be streamlined to reflect technological change, improve consistency, and meet the needs of a changing economy now and in the future, while ensuring that minimum regulated safety standards are achieved. For more information about the review, and the legislation affected, please click here.

On May 27, 2008, the House of Assembly passed Bill No. 167 "An Act to Improve and Promote Technical Safety in the Province", also known as the Technical Safety Act.

In early 2009, the Technical Safety Act will become the enabling legislation for the Fuel Safety Regulations (which are currently under the Fire Safety Act). The fuel safety discipline, being technical in nature, has a more appropriate fit under the new Act. As such, the Fuel Safety Regulations must be reviewed and updated. We have prepared a Consultation Paper on proposed changes to the regulation. Submissions expressing comment, suggestions, and questions are invited from all stakeholders.

The consultation closed on, December 4, 2008. See the Consultation Paper for more information.
