Registry of Motor Vehicles - What's New

New Driver's Licence & Identification Cards

The province has introduced new driverís licences and ID cards with enhanced security features to better protect the personal identity of Nova Scotians.

Registry of Motor Vehicles – 3% Fee Increase June 1, 2015

Please be advised, effective June 1, 2015 Registry of Motor Vehicles fees will increase by 3%.

Harmonized Sales Tax Rate

Effective July 1, 2010 the Provincial Portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) was increased from 8% to 10%. Therefore, effective July 1, 2010 the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and the Nova Scotia Sales Tax (NSST) will be increased from 13% to 15%.

Vehicles purchased on or after July 1, 2010 will be taxable at the rate of 15%. For a Schedule of Fees effective July 1, 2010, click here. Some Goods & Services fees are subject to HST.
