Student Assistance for Part-Time studies

Eligible part-time students pursuing post-secondary education can access financial aid to help cover their expenses. Students may receive up to $10,000 in federal loans, along with additional grant funding. If you are an applicant with dependants, additional grant funding may be available to you.

To qualify for Part-time Student Aid, students must be enrolled in a designated post-secondary institution and taking between 20% and 59% of a full course load. Generally, a standard university course load is defined as follows:

5 courses = 100% course load
4 courses = 80% course load
3 courses = 60% course load
2 courses = 40% course load
1 course = 20% course load

*If you are attending a college, trade/technical, or international institution it is suggested you follow up with your school to determine how they define a full-time course load, as they may not use the standard university model.

For students with approved disabilities, the required course load is between 20% and 39%. If you are a student with a permanent, persistent or prolonged disability, enrolled in at least 40% and less than 60% of a full-time course load, you may elect to apply through the full-time application if you wish, otherwise you will be considered part-time. Additionally, you may be eligible to receive the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities.

Note: To be eligible for part-time funding, the program of study you are applying for must have an approved full-time equivalent at the institution you are attending.
