A key component of our work is undertaking activities that increase the level of public awareness of Aboriginal people and the issues they face. Public opinion research clearly indicates that there is a low level of awareness among Nova Scotians but a keen interest in knowing more about the history, culture and current day issues facing the Mi'kmaq.
The Office has begun to develop resources for the general public, schools, government employees and targeted audiences that support our objective of increasing awareness. Aboriginal Perceptions training has been made available to over 2,000 public servants over the last five years and has markedly improved the level of awareness across government.
