Federal-Provincial
relations are important to Nova Scotia for many social and economic reasons.
The federal government spends a total of approximately $290 billion per year in
all the provinces and territories. These expenditures generate jobs, incomes,
and revenues for governments. Advancing Nova Scotia's priorities in Ottawa is a
key focus for Intergovernmental Affairs, through forums such as the Council of
the Federation and Council of Atlantic Premiers. Increasing federal
awareness and understanding of Nova Scotia's issues encourages federal policy
and funding that responds to Nova Scotia's needs.
