Integrated Resource Management

The Department of Natural Resources manages the purchase and sale of Crown land and grants licenses to people, organizations and companies for using resources on Crown land.

Sometimes an Integrated Resource Management review is used to evaluate Crown land use applications. It combines GIS (geographic information system), data analysis, policy analysis and field research to produce a report with informed recommendations about the applications.

The review also takes into consideration the many resource values, features, interests and issues that affect Crown land. Other factors, including social, economic and public safety interests are not explicitly explored in the review.

This process helps make sure Crown land supports a mix of activities that are balanced with protecting biodiversity and ecosystems. It also aims to minimize land-use conflict.
