The Family Justice Navigation Program (FJNP) provides comprehensive support and guidance to individuals navigating the family justice system. The Program is not a part of the court, and Family Justice Navigators are not court staff and offer impartial and objective support and guidance.

Through the provision of navigation services, the program aims to assist individuals involved in family law matters, such as separation/divorce, child custody, parenting time plans, and/or child support. As well, the program seeks to enhance access to justice, support, and guidance for individuals who may be experiencing, or at risk of, intimate partner violence (IPV).

The Family Justice Navigation Program goals are to:

• Reduce stress by offering individualized, trauma-informed support and assistance
• Provide increased and efficient access to information
• Enhance active outreach, support, and services to Nova Scotians involved in family justice matters
• Assist with creating a comprehensive support network, when needed
• Provide continuity of support for individuals navigating the family justice system or involved in the family court process

How can a Family Justice Navigator help?

You can access the program for support or guidance if you have questions or concerns related to family justice matters or the family court process.

Family Justice Navigators can:

• Provide information regarding court processes, programs and available resources
• Refer clients to the appropriate court officers and/or services (i.e., FLIC, Intake)
• Assist with questions regarding the application process and provide guidance on documentation
• Assess needs and provide support and safety planning, where appropriate
• Offer information about accessing community resources and organizations that may be able to assist with legal, financial, or social issues
• Offer support during family court processes

Family Justice Navigators cannot:

• Give legal advice
• Tell you what application you should make
• Advise what the outcome of your application will be
• Give their opinion on your legal issue
