Interprovincial Vehicle Recognition

Nova Scotia has made it easier for commercial vehicles from other provinces or territories to operate in the province.

As of 3 June 2025, commercial carriers can operate and register vehicles in Nova Scotia if:

  • the vehicle is eligible for registration in another Canadian jurisdiction
  • the vehicle meets Nova Scotia’s road weight limit requirements

What you should do to operate your vehicle in Nova Scotia

If you own a commercial vehicle that was previously outside Nova Scotia’s Regulations and its eligible to be registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, you can request approval to now operate your vehicle in Nova Scotia.
