  • Receives applications for and records excavation registrations and issues letters of authorization.
  • Maintains maps showing the disposition of lands under petroleum agreement, licences, leases or non mineral registration.
  • Processes applications for petroleum, coal gas, underground gas storage rights and requests for Oak Island Treasure licences.
  • Receives and tabulates information concerning production and employment in Nova Scotia mines and quarries.
  • Provides assistance regarding the procedures for obtaining and maintaining the required licences and forms.
  • Provides information on past exploration and mining activities.
  • Receives all fees, payments-in-lieu of work, bonds and determines the amount of bonds.
  • Handles the sale of claim reference maps and copies of legislation.
  • Monitors mineral exploration activities in Nova Scotia.
