Regional Lake Sediment Geochemical Survey over Southern Nova Scotia

DP ME 132, Version 2, 2006. Regional Lake Sediment Geochemical Survey by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources over Southern Nova Scotia, 1977-1978

Abstract

A regional centre lake bottom sampling survey was conducted in the Meguma zone in southern Nova Scotia from 1977-1978 and was funded by the 1975-1980 Canada Department of Regional Economic Expansion - Nova Scotia (DREE-NS) Mineral Development Agreement. A two-square mile grid was used in assuring that a representative sampling density was maintained. One lake in each grid square was sampled and approximately 4000 samples were collected in two years. Samples were analyzed for Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Co, Fe, Mn, Ca, Mg, Mo, Hg, U, and As. In 1984, a Lake Sediment Sample Re-analysis was conducted, with funding as a project within the Canada - Nova Scotia Mineral Development agreement 1984-1989. Approximately 300 archived lake sediment samples from the 1977-1978 survey were submitted for analysis for As, Ag, Cu, Pb, Zn, Th, Ti, Sb, Sn, Zr, Nb, Au, W, Rb, Li, and F. This data set was previously included as part of a compilation of geochemical surveys and released as DP ME 004 Version 1. This data set previously consisted of lks778b1 and lks85b1 which were later renamed c132sncd-a and c132sncd-b. Further information about the survey and analysis can be found in the draft documents: survey_description_cd-a.wpd, survey_description_cd-b.wpd, elements_cd-a.wb3, elements_cd-b.wb3, fields_cd-a.wb3 and fields_cd-b.wb3 that are supplied with the data set.

Downloading Instructions

The data files have been compressed using PKZIP into a single, self-extracting EXE file.

  1. Read the Licence before accepting the data.
  2. Download the self-extracting EXE file to the desired location on your hard drive.
  3. Double click or "RUN" the EXE file and the data files will be unzipped automatically.

The EXE file can also be opened in WinZip to view and extract the compressed files in the data set.

On UNIX platforms, the unzip command will extract the compressed files in the EXE.

All data sets are in six-degree Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 20 projection using the NAD83 datum. A readme file and a copy of the licence agreement are also included with each data set.
