Geochemical Analysis of Bulk Stream Sediment and Water Samples over Northern Nova Scotia

DP ME 135, Version 2, 2006. Geochemical Analyses of Bulk Stream Sediment and Water Samples by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources over Northern Nova Scotia, 1986-1987

Abstract

A regional stream sediment and water survey was carried out on northern mainland Nova Scotia and on Cape Breton Island between 1986-1987 with funding from the Geological Survey of Canada through the 1984-89 Canada - Nova Scotia mineral Development Agreement. Approximately 3300 stream sediment samples, including duplicates, were analyzed for: Ag, As, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Eu, Fe, Hf, Ir, La, Lu, Mo, Na, Sb, Sc, Se, Sm, Sn, Ta, Tb, Th, Ti, U, W, Yb, Zn, Au, Ba, Br, Cd, Ni, Rb, Tr and Zr in the coarse (-60 - +230) heavy mineral separate fraction, and Ag, Al, Au, Ba, Bi, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Na, Ni, Rb, V, Zn, and K in the fine (-230) fraction. Stream waters were analyzed for uranium and fluorine. This digital product consists of a compilation of the results of this survey. This data set was previously included as part of a compilation of geochemical surveys and released as DP ME 004 Version 1. This data set previously consisted of st867fb1, st867hb1, and stw867b1, which were later renamed to c135nccf, c135ncch and c135nccw. Further information about the survey and analysis can be found in the draft documents: survey_description.wpd, elements_cf.wb3, elements_ch.wb3, elements_cw.wb3 and fields_cw.wb3 that are supplied with the data set.

Downloading Instructions

The data files have been compressed using PKZIP into a single, self-extracting EXE file.

  1. Read the Licence before accepting the data.
  2. Download the self-extracting EXE file to the desired location on your hard drive.
  3. Double click or "RUN" the EXE file and the data files will be unzipped automatically.

The EXE file can also be opened in WinZip to view and extract the compressed files in the data set.

On UNIX platforms, the unzip command will extract the compressed files in the EXE.

All data sets are in six-degree Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 20 projection using the NAD83 datum. A readme file and a copy of the licence agreement are also included with each data set.
