About Geothermal Potential in Onshore Nova Scotia

Online Interactive Map for Viewing the Geothermal Potential in Onshore Nova Scotia

The application was developed to show the preliminary potential of electricity generation and direct use of underground heat in onshore areas of Nova Scotia. The application also highlights areas where there is potential for heating and cooling from abandoned mines.

The project was developed in 2020 as a collaboration between Nova Scotia’s Department of Agriculture (NSDA) and Nova Scotia’s Department of Energy and Mines (NSDEM), and the Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA).  A joint team consisting of Enki GeoSolutions and the Institut National de Recherche Scientifique (INRS) was selected to carry out the project and the project report is available here: https://novascotia.ca/natr/meb/data/ofr/ofr_me_2021-003.pdf.
